Birthday's and another Baptism

I finally had a chance to do another Spongebob cake. Amy didn't want the arms and legs making the cake a lot easier to make. I was originally going to try to smooth out the icing and try to work some magic but chickened out and used the star method. It looks so cute and adds texture but it's kind of the wimpy way to make the cake look good. I was really pleased, it turned out really cute and the colors were great.
Brecken's baptism cake. I think I'm loosing my touch, my last few cakes have not been very cooperative. I for some reason thought that cross wouldn't be enough cake so I made a sheet cake for underneath. I was trying something different and ended up making way too much cake. And of course I've mentioned my awful handwritting. It didn't help that I wrote this on as people were crowding around the table and I was in a hurry. I need to take a icing handwritting course.

Piper's 5th Birthday cake inspired by Candyland. I was not practicing very good time management with this and had to skip some of the details and let Piper and Reagan add most of the candy touches. I wanted to make a little castle/pavillion on top of the white blob but ended up just sticking a bunch of lollipops on it and leaving it as is.

Barbie and Football

I'm at it again, I needed to get creative again and am so glad I've had the chance in the last two weeks, first I made the Barbie cake below for Ruby's 3rd Birthday. Ruby is an easy customer, she loves fondant, gumpaste, and the color pink. She will eat anything with sugar in it as her Mom says. I liked Barbie plain and simple but I'm sure the birthday girl would have loved some more bells and whistles on it. I did write her name across the split in the skirt before it went home but didn't take another picture. Above is Kyle's 8th birthday cake. It was a fun one to make and I hope he likes it!

Baby Rattles

More baby rattle cupcakes. These are so fun to make and so easy! I chose to use the sprinkles and a single pattern because the last time I did these I thought they started to look too Easter'ish. The two on the bottom that are all blue I dropped into the sprinkles so those were for tasting by the hostess' husband and daughter.

Becki's Wedding Cake

I had the opportunity to do a wedding cake again a few weeks ago. I will update the site with it's construction in progress photos soon but here is the final product. Unfortunately I forgot my camera when delivering it so these were from my phone. It was ivory fondant with sparkles and ribbon.

A couple more

Cupcakes for a bachelorette party - the wedding is a on a beach so we kept them basic with the sandy color and the blue matches the bridesmaid's dresses.
Bev's 60th Birthday cake. The color did not show up well on camera but it was very bright and pretty, teal and purple which I wasn't initially excited about but the colors surprised me. It was modeled after the party invite with the polka dots.

Check back soon, I am making Halloween cupcakes as a craft for my MOPS (Mom's) Group and
I have a wedding cake coming up in early November that I'm really excited about!

August was cake month

The month of August was all about cake. The third week in particular as I did three cakes that week and had to turn down three others. I did develop a good system though, it was a great learning experience and I am still learning so much and experimenting with new ideas all the time. Now that I don't have any orders in the pipeline I will have to try to have fun with some new recipes and flavors.
Baptism in blue
This was a Birthday cake for all the grandkids' birthdays, they celebrate together once a year. This was the most challenging cake, nothing wanted to cooperate for me. I finally gave up on making tinkerbell and spiderman and bought the candles. The cell phones, flat screen tv and princess I made out of fondant.

Monkey for a 1st birthday boy complete with his own cake for mess making.
I made the bananna out of fondant

Groom's cake - a tree stump with a little tackle box and fishing pole

this was one of the easiest cakes as all you have to do is splotch the icing on, the messier the better

Spiderman cake for a little boy's birthday. I used cookie icing for spidey right from the grocery store as I have tried and tried to make my cookie icing with different flavors but it has never tasted as good as the store bought version.

Garden Party

My friend Angela's Bridal Shower was a garden party so I thought I'd play with gumpaste and make some flowers. It was fun making the flowers. I haven't done a lot of that yet and I have to say I like the look of these better than buttercream flowers.
